Golden Nuggets: From #1 to #5 – Niners Nation

In the span of just over 24 hours, the 49ers went from the top seed in the NFC looking towards a 1st round bye and homefield advantage to the #5 seed with the potential of facing the Dallas Cowboys on the road for their 1st playoff game. The 49ers dropped a close game against the Baltimore Ravens on the road to drop their record to 10-2 and the Seattle Seahawks beat the Minnesota Vikings to move to 10-2. The Seahawks lead the NFC West by virtue of beating the 49ers a few weeks back. The NFC West division winner may come down to the last game of the season when the Seahawks host the 49ers.

In Baltimore, the 49ers was able to hold their own against one of the top teams in the NFL and MVP candidate Lamar Jackson. The game came down to a Justin Tucker field goal. The loss forced the Niners to rely on the Vikings beating Seattle on the road on Monday Night Football to hold on to #1 seed, but it was not to be. The Niners will now face the #1 seeded New Orleans Saints in New Orleans to get back to their winning ways. A win would not vault the team back to their top spot unless the LA Rams are able to beat the Seahawks in LA.

At this current point, the 49ers would go on the road to face the NFC East leading Dallas Cowboys if the playoffs started next week. But if the Niners are able to get back to winning quickly and take care of business in Seattle in Week 17, they still have a good shot at earning a 1st round bye and homefield advantage to give Levi’s Stadium its playoff debut.
