Here are the top 10 US colleges that tech giants such as Google, Apple, and Facebook hire from, according to new LinkedIn data (GOOG, FB)

The University of Washington is producing more recruits for the tech giants than any other US college, according to a new analysis of LinkedIn data.

Talent company SHL analyzed the LinkedIn profiles of employees across major tech companies and discovered that the University of Washington had the highest number of graduates working for tech giants, with the University of California, Berkeley, producing the second most.

SHL told Business Insider it surveyed 404,068 LinkedIn profiles of US-based employees across 17 of the biggest US tech companies, which included Google, Amazon, Facebook, Apple, and Microsoft.

While the University of Washington was top of the rankings for tech company graduates overall, the hiring preferences for individual tech companies varied.

According to the SHL data, Google has recruited more employees from Stanford University than any other college, with UC Berkeley its second-most heavily recruited university. The data shows that Apple also prefers Stanford, with UC Berkeley second.

For Facebook, those two positions were reversed, with UC Berkeley producing the highest number of graduates for the social media company, and Stanford just behind. 

Amazon did, however, take more of its graduates from the University of Washington than any other college, according to the data. SHL published its findings on the biggest tech companies on its website.

The survey also discovered that almost 50% of Google and Facebook’s employees were privately educated. 49% of Google employees analyzed were private graduates, as were 47.5% of Facebook employees.

Sony (45.4%), IBM (44.5%), and Adobe (44.1%) came in third, fourth, and fifth place. Apple was in eighth place with 37.3% of its employees privately educated, according to the surveyed profiles.

Interestingly, SHL also found that Google and Facebook hire the highest number of Ivy League alumni of any tech company — 11.5% and 11.2% of their workforces respectively — yet no Ivy League members appear in the top 10 colleges tech giants are hiring from.

A spokesperson for Facebook declined to comment on the data. A spokesperson for Google did not respond to Business Insider’s request for comment.
